The APXpress Alliance is a collaborative industry initiative aiming to accelerate the adoption of APXpress technology, for high-speed in-vehicle networks that support various automotive interfaces. Members are committed to creating advanced, interoperable products to build a valuable ecosystem for the global automotive industry. The Alliance welcomes a diverse range of contributors including fabless semiconductor companies, foundries, cable and connector suppliers, test equipment manufacturers, and software design houses, simplifying specification processes for Tier 1 suppliers and OEMs. Its goal is to bundle expertise and drive innovation to establish APXpress as the foundation for future automotive networks.
APXpress is a scalable, hardware-based network of nodes engineered to surpass the constraints of today’s automotive networking technologies. At its core lies a dedicated 32 Gbps low-power physical layer (PHY), fully implemented in hardware to deliver exceptional throughput while minimizing energy consumption.
Its architecture is inherently flexible, accommodating a wide range of bandwidth and lane configurations. By leveraging full-duplex transmission over differential pairs and dual-simplex communication over optical links, APXpress enables highly adaptable and efficient data flow - optimized for low latency, high throughput, and maximum network utilization.
A key differentiator of APXpress is its integrated digital core network functionality. Each node combines gateway and data aggregation roles, removing the need for separate network switches. Simultaneously, nodes offer an extensive suite of standard interfaces - including DisplayPort, Ethernet, MIPI CSI-2, PCIe, I²C, I²S, SPI, and more - seamlessly connecting sensors, processors, and displays directly to the APXpress network backbone.
With its low and deterministic latency, APXpress supports redundant data paths using minimal buffering, making it ideal for latency-critical applications such as active noise cancellation and other real-time control loops. Nodes can interface directly with sensors and incorporate end-to-end security, ensuring data integrity across the network without requiring repeated encryption and decryption.
